Some years ago Anthea and I had an old fireplace and stone surround removed and replaced by a marble one. There was room for a framed painting to be hung over it. For a couple of years we found nothing , then we stumbled by chance over a framed print that we thought might be ok temporarily until we found the right one. The picture is still there and we have grown to love it. It is a picture that has for its centre-piece a young couple arm in arm with the man holding open a ladies umbrella as they walk through the golden mist in a park. It’s as if it sums up as a couple as we look to the future and look back at our walk together. The umbrella is painted red but its not as noticeable as many pictures that contain a red umbrella.
As a staff team we have been praying fro the Church on the Hill’s congregation on a daily basis since our last meeting. Part of our prayer is based on the writings of Hosea, one of the Old Testament prophets:
“Let us know, let us press on to know the Lord;
His appearing is as sure as the dawn;
He will come to us like the showers,
Like the spring rains that water the earth.” (Hosea 6v3)
